Massaquoi wins it all...almost

It was a bright sunny day, clouds looming from the impending rain storm that was sure to put a delay on day 1 of the region7 AAAAAAA championships. Day one is field event and trials day. In the long jump, Massaquoi, after her first jump, was disappointed after a lack luster effort. Enter thunder and lightning. The day had been ruined, or maybe not. Of course, the meet went on a delay for about 35 minutes. This gave Massaquoi some time to regroup and get focused. On her second jump she improved to over 17 feet. She could rest easy that she would have a place in the finals. On the next 3 jump Massaquoi coul not find the board; however she was still jumping over 17 feet each time. On the last Jump she soared into the record book once again, breaking the school record which was previously broke by herself earlier in the season. This huge jump of 17'11 was short of first place by just 2 inches. Enter day two . Day two is finals day in running events. Massaquoi was on a mission to avenge herself in the long jump. First was the 100 meter dash. She knew she had an uphill battle with Tate from Brookwood who had went 11.70 in the dash. Massaquoi had only been 12.24 this season. Once the race popped off Massaquoi found herself trailing Tate but suddenly got a burst of speed and finished the race in first. Only one obstacle stood in her way now; the 30 hurdles. Massaquoi knew that if she were to win the event she would have to work the entire race. It was not a contest from the first 20 meters until the end of the race. Massaquoi opened up a lead on the field from the gun that no other hurdler could recover from. Massaquoi waltzed into a first place finish with a personal best 45.84. " I had doubts going in because I have been hurt all season, I just wanted to make my coaches proud so I just sucked it up and ran a hard race". Said Massaquoi on her 300 hurdle race. Massaquoi8 and counterpart Tijaah Harris will represent Berkmar in the Sectional meet this weekend at Mill Creek. While Harris will run the 110 hurdles and the 300 hurdles, Massaquoi will Long jump, run the 100 meter dash, and run the 300 hurdles all in an attempt to qualify for the state championship.
